Evelyn M. Reader, age 95, of Bartonville died 6:04 PM, Thursday, March 26 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton surrounded by her family.
We know she is having a wonderful time with Dad, Abby, and Snuggles and everyone else she has missed. She probably feels so good, she's mowing grass!
She was born December 5, 1919 in Texas to Will and Freda Schulz.
Her family moved to Illinois following the Great Dust Bowl in Texas. She met Wilbur Reader, who along with the rest of the Reader brothers were excited to meet the Texas girls.
They were married July 26, 1941 in St Louis and he preceded her in death May 17, 1990.
In addition to Wilbur, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jessie "Jake", brothers Albert "Red", John, and infant brother, and granddogs Abby and "My Puppy" Snuggles.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Juanita Reader of Bartonville and Bernice (Jim) McKinney of Austin, TX and granddog Mailee. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Delores "Toby" Bohm, Blanche Ohrn, Wilma Jost, May Reader, Dorothy Reader, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.

Evelyn was very active as room mother and Brownie and Girl Scout leader when Juanita and Bernice were young. She retired from Limestone High School after Wilbur retired and they enjoyed going to the dog and horse races and traveling especially to Las Vegas.

She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having big family holiday celebrations. She was an awesome seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She shared her creative talents with anyone that needed help, including wallpapering, tiling, and painting. She was a member of East Peoria First United Methodist where she enjoyed being a very active member of the Prayer Shawl ministry. She loved dogs and hummingbirds.

She was very independent. She loved her family and would do anything for them and was cherished by everyone.

The family would like to thank the staff at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for the wonderful care she received the last three months and the caring staff at Apostolic Christian Restmor the last three weeks, along with family and friends.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 29 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville with visitation one hour prior to service. The Rev. Mary Arnold will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.
